Congratulations! You have chosen a poodle.
Here’s some things to consider before you bring your new poodle home for the first time.
So you can make their transition welcoming and comfortable.
It is advisable to ensure your dog has had their first round of vaccinations before you complete your purchase.
You’ll then know when you need to take them to your vet for their second set of vaccinations.
What will your poodle bring with them?
A few weeks before collection, we found it was really helpful to give our new poodle a blanket which they, and any other animals, could sleep on in their existing home.
The blanket then gives your dog something familiar to bring with them to promote feelings of safety and comfort in their new home.
What will your poodle eat?
It is also a good idea to buy the brand of food your poodle has been accustomed to eating at its previous owners, again this promotes a sense of stability for them.
This can always be weaned off and replaced with a food of your choice at a later date.
If you have any other animals, we learnt it was best to make sure they are all present when your new poodle first arrives.
This helps your dog establish its place in the family.
What will you need for your poodle?
When your poodle does arrive at your home they will need some essentials such as a water bowl, food bowl, collar and lead, poo bags and of course toys.
Where is your poodle going to sleep?
One of the biggest decisions you’ll have to make is where your dog is going to sleep.
It is a personal decision and will be guided by your home, family and dog.
The main options are a dog bed (https://amzn.to/4hYzZfX), your bed (where your dog might like to take over) or a dog cage (https://amzn.to/3CIRG4i).
These are some simple suggestions, but can make a big difference to welcoming your new poodle into your home.
